How Can We Celebrate Our Anniversary at Walt Disney World?
19th Jun 2012
My husband and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary at Walt Disney World this year. For a long time now we have dreamed of renewing our vows at the World, after all it is our home away from home. So, early this year I started researching about weddings and vow renewals at Disney. There is a hard and fast rule that it is not acceptable to have a ceremony such as this without going through Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings department. So, I contacted them and the cost for my family (a total of 8 of us) to join us for a vow renewal costs way too much for our budget. Even the Memories Collection at $2495 (still too expensive) only allows 6 guests and we are a family of 8.
So, our dream of having a special vow renewal at Disney was over. Still, I was determined to do something nice to celebrate our anniversary. I started researching other options that might work. These included private dining options, private fireworks cruises, etc. Then, I ran across two words I absolutely love: Illuminations and Dessert!
The Illuminations Dessert Party at Epcot sounded perfect for us. I contacted Disney to get information about location, pricing and what was included in the cost. The first question they asked is, “Are you staying in a Disney resort during that time?” That is the requirement – you must be a Disney resort guest to book it. It turned out that there is a location called UK Pubside that is perfect for our family as it only holds up to 12 people. It is behind the UK pub and has 3 square-top tables with 4 chairs each. Perfect! And, most importantly, it was available for my date. They penciled me in and forwarded the dessert menus from which to choose. I selected the menu and called them back to confirm the date and share with them the menu chosen.
Soon after that, I received my contract, Banquet Event Order, and estimated bill. I read the contract, signed it, provided my credit card number and voila! All done!
Thankfully, we will have a great event to celebrate our anniversary with those we love most. And, since we are beach bums at heart, we have decided that everyone should wear Hawaiian attire and we have a lei for each of them. We will be exchanging the rings we always planned on and, since we are legally married and thus do not require an officiate, we will exchange some short vows of our own and exchange the rings in a simple, short ceremony. Our sons and daughter will get a chance to say something as well.
One of the best things is that we will be able to watch Illuminations with a completely unobstructed view while enjoying awesome, delectable treats. What’s on the menu? I thought you’d never ask.
The “Star” Dessert Buffet consists of:
White and Dark Chocolate Laced Éclairs
Mini Fruit Custard Tarts
Cream Horns with Almonds
Guava Cheesecake Pushup with Mango Gelee
Caramel Ganache Bars with Sea Salt
Trio of Mini Tea Cakes: Apple Crumble Crunch, Strawberry Cream and Banana Chocolate Chip
Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, and Selection of Teas
The total cost for our 20th Anniversary Party $493.10. The cost of making special new memories with our family over some chocolate and fireworks — priceless!
I think it will be a fabulous event and you can look for a post about how everything went with lots of pictures coming up in December.
